12 inch shells in the competition
The Fireworks Firm Ltd is helping to represent the UK at the prestigious Chinese competition held in the Hunan Province. Changsha is the Capital city of the world for fireworks and on 25th of February 2012 (Saturday night), the team will be preparing to fire over 3,000 shells mostly 5", 6" and 8", including many 10" and 12" shells in this show.
Did you know the biggest shells used on New Year's Eve at the London Eye was 6" shells, so this show should be amazing.
52 teams from around the world will attempt to produce the winning show.
The Team leader for this show is Chris from Celtic, including help from many other firers from the UK, making it a truely UK show.
Keep an eye out for the winners and we hope the best team wins!

Trip to China
Our team will be visiting Liuyang City in China - the Fireworks Capital of the World - to see our manufacturers in February to test and review new material for 2012.
The team are leaving on 20th Feburaury.
With testing on 22nd, 23rd and 24th February for CAT.4 professional material.
Watching the new range fired in a large display on the 25th February.
Testing CAT.3 consumer fireworks on 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th February.
Leaving China on 1st March - watch this space!

Competition Winner
The draw was made for the January competition.
The winner is: Mr Holland from Dartford.
He will be popping in to collect his prize next week and we hope to receive a video testimonial from him.

Events of 2012
There's plenty happening in London and the United Kingdom in 2012. Here's our pick of premier events for this year.
Chinese New Year: This is one of the biggest Chinese New Year celebrations to take place outside of China, and features a rapturous parade followed by a boisterous festival. 2012 is the year of the dragon.
Diamond Jubilee: In the first week of June 2012, Her Majesty The Queen will celebrate 60 years as Britain's monarch.
Olympic Games: Welcoming the world's greatest Olympic athletes, The London Olympic Games will feature 26 different sports, breaking down into disciplines and events.
Trooping the Colour: The Queen's birthday, this annual display of pomp and ceremony might not glisten quite so grandly when compared to the Diamond Jubilee shortly beforehand, but it's another reliable display of British majesty.
Greenwich + Docklands International Festival: There are over 200 free performances taking place during this festival. It's been going for a few years now, but with this being the Olympics year expect a bumper programme from this East End event.
With so much going on, not to mention the weddings and corporate events taking place, this is going to be an exciting year for The Fireworks Firm!

Our top 5 New years traditions:
England: Singing Auld Lang Syne- Although few of us know the words for this traditional song! The title literally translates as "old long since" and means "times gone by."
Scotland (Hogmany): Just after the strike of midnight, neighbours visit each other to share their New Years Wishes. This is known as first footing. It is considered especially lucky if a tall dark handsome man enters your house first...
Japan: On New Years Eve, Buddhist temples strike their gongs 108 times, in a effort to expel 108 types of human weaknesses.
Spain: The Spanish eat 12 grapes to ensure 12 months of happiness ahead.
But our favourite tradition which just happens to be universal, is... yep you guessed it, fireworks. Capital cities, small communities, families and friends set the sky alight, celebrating the arrival of the New Year. Just imagine the view from space!

Everchanging weather
Gusty winds yesterday, glorious sunshine today... With the everchanging weather please remember high winds, low cloud or fog are the only weather conditions that adversely affect a fireworks display. Rain or snow itself does not stop a display being set up or fired.
So here's wishing for a White Christmas with fireworks at the end of the evening to light up the night!
